Job Description

This is a Temporary Position that will run from May 29, 2024 to July 26, 2024.

The working days for this position will be Monday-Friday and some weekends.

Pay is $90-$100 per day.

SUMMARY: The Head Counselor is responsible for program and counseling leadership for eight Counselors and approximately 75 - 180 campers. The Head Counselor will assist in General Staff Orientation. They will also give support and guidance for camper and staff discipline when needed. The Head Counselor is in charge of implementing all rules to all program staff members during the summer. The Head Counselor will help coordinate evening programming with Camp Leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the duties and responsibilities below the Head Counselor will adhere to and enforce all camp policies, procedures and safety regulations, always making camper and staff safety a priority. They will also know where staff assigned to them are at all times.

  • Attend/Assist with general staff training week, and read all material mailed prior to training week.
  • Provide leadership as Head Counselor to Counselors and campers per session.
  • Assist in supervising all counseling staff.
  • Supervise nightly: curfew and cabin security.
  • Assist with coordination of daily programming, evening programs, classes and activities.
  • Assist with transportation of campers/staff.
  • Provide leadership and direction to an assigned group of campers in daily activities, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the campers by conducting devotions, prayer time, and Bible class. Be available to provide spiritual direction to the campers as needed and record all accounts of a young person accepting Christ or requesting prayer.
  • Instruction/guidance in cabin cleanliness and care of property.
  • Instruction/guidance in personal hygiene.
  • Instruction/guidance on table manners and conduct in the dining hall
  • Guidance/Discipline to campers on an as needed basis according to the policies and procedures.
  • Overnight camp-outs and other pioneering activities.
  • Provide support and guidance for discipline of all counseling staff members.
  • Participate in and attend all staff meetings, devotions, outings, and worship services.
  • Attend to pre-camp preparation of Program: office, equipment, recreation areas, and lodging.
  • Assist in leading camp clean-up at the close of each camp, in preparation for the next group. Assist with camper check-in and check-out.
  • Supervise the maintaining of camp: lights out, doors locked, curfew compliance and camp guidelines, to all counseling staff members during camp sessions and days off.
  • Supervise staff lounge area and staff living areas for cleanliness and appropriate behavior.
  • Successfully complete the Salvation Army Safe From Harm training, the ARC CPR and First Aid Training or be able to supply documentation of previous and current certification.
  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the position.
