Responsibilities

Polysomnographic Testing

  • Perform PSG testing using the laboratory protocols as guidelines
  • Types of studies performed: Diagnostic PSG, Split-Night PSG, CPAP/BIPAP/ASV Titration PSG, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing, Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing, Type III Home PSG.
  • Scoring all modes of PSG testing.

Cross train in Neurodiagnostic testing: Dayshift staff

  • Performs EEGs on both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Takes EEG on-call for evenings and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • May be asked to train in EMG testing.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

Graduate of a Nationally recognized Polysomnographic Program, Respiratory Therapy Program or Neurodiagnostic Program. On the job training if the Candidate holds his/her Registry in Polysomnography.

Experience:

License(s)/Certification(s):

Licensed by the State of Iowa in Respiratory Therapy and/or Polysomnography.

Registry by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT). BCLS upon hire or within 30 days

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

10/20 electrode placement system. Pattern recognition. PAP titration skills. Ability to recognize emergent situations and providing the appropriate response.
